Surfing on Fuerteventura - The surf spots
On Fuerteventura you will find numerous beaches and surf spots. With its mild climate and year-round surfing conditions, the beautiful Canary Island attracts more and more surf-hungry tourists. Most of the surf spots on Fuerte are located in the north of the island. The famous North Shore stretches along the top of the coast from Cotillo in the west to Corralejo in the east. It has numerous beach breaks and reef breaks for surfers of all levels. You will find surf spots like El Cotillo, Majanicho, Playa de Esquinzo, Punta Blanca, El Hierro and many more.
However, you will also find perfect surf spots here in the south. Besides La Pared, there is Esquinzo and Jandia, for example. These surf spots in the south of Fuerteventura are all located on beautiful sandy beaches. So if you need a short break from the action in the water, you can just chill out on the beach and enjoy the sun. Perhaps the biggest advantage of surfing in the south of Fuerteventura is that the surf spots are not yet as crowded and overcrowded as in the north. In the south, the surf community is still relatively small and people know each other in the water. Of course, this also reflects on the vibe in the line up, which is usually relaxed and friendly. As long as you are respectful and follow the surf rules, you will always be greeted with a smile here.

A short surf spot excursion: Beach Breaks, Reef Breaks & Point Breaks
Beach breaks are waves on fine sandy beaches. The advantage here is that you usually don't have to be afraid of rocks or stones. Of course, this is especially good for surfing beginners. But be careful: there are often currents here that you should watch out for! In addition, paddling out into the line up can sometimes be exhausting and a bit difficult.
Reef breaks, as the name suggests, are surf spots on reefs. Here, the waves push over the reefs lying below the water surface. The nice thing about reef waves is that they usually come at you relatively evenly. In addition, there is often a channel here where you can easily paddle out into the line up in flat water. The disadvantage is that you often have to enter the water over sharp-edged reef. This can lead to painful cuts on your feet. In addition, you should always keep an eye on the water depth and the reef when surfing the wave. This way you can make sure you get out of the wave early enough without landing on the pointy reef.
At point breaks, the waves usually break along a headland into a bay. The waves tend to hit the beach or coastline from the side. These waves are perfect for beginners and advanced surfers because they often promise long rides and also have a bit of power. A famous point break in the south of Fuerteventura is the Cruz Roja surf spot in Jandia. This surf spot only runs under certain conditions and rather rarely, but when it is "on" it is definitely one of the best waves on the whole island.

If you've never surfed before or want to improve your surfing skills, you can take surf lessons at our OTRO MODO surf school. Very often, the course takes place on the beach of La Pared. Needless to say, we will pick you up directly from the surf villa for the surf course. If the surf conditions in La Pared are not so good, our surf school is mobile. Then we will take you and the other surf students to one of the other surf spots in the south of Fuerteventura. The beach shuttle is of course always included in the price of the surf course.
Our OTRO MODO surf school is officially recognised by the local municipality of Pajara. Obviously, we have all the insurances required in the EU. Our surf instructors are trained lifeguards and have internationally valid surf instructor licences. Thanks to small groups, our surf coaches can respond individually to the needs and wishes of our surf students. With our teaching concept, which is based on simple steps, every surfer has their first sense of achievement in a short time.
